Basic Computer Maintenance:
Defragmenting Your Computer
This is an essential task that will keep your computer
running efficiently. The purpose of
defragmenting your PC (or zapping the P-Ram for MAC users) is to clean up broken or fragmented files and data. We equate this to cleaning up a bedroom. As you go throughout the week getting up,
going to work or school, you tend to rush through your drawers grabbing what
you need to get ready for the day.
Clothes get tossed here and there, socks may not get put back in the
sock drawer and so on. These are the same
actions your computer goes through when you using software uploading and downloading information on the computer. The computer processor feverishly goes out
to find data you have clicked on and in the process moves, tosses, and throws files out of its way. Over time things get messy and your computer
slows down. Defragmenting
your computer cleans up the mess and puts things back in order
again, just like putting the socks neatly back
into the sock drawer. We suggest defragging your computer at least once a week.
